“TO OFFER THE BEST WINE, USE BUSINESS TO EDUCATE & INSPIRE, TO DO NO UNNECESSARY HARM.”
It started with a simple goal: find a bottle of organic wine that tasted good and didn’t have a cartoon on the label. It was difficult, and we were thirsty. In 2011, we discovered organic & biodynamic wines that were remarkable, but very misunderstood by wine drinkers. We watched shoppers at Trader Joe’s scrutinize over ingredients on labels identifying honestly made food, then happily walking two aisles over to buy “Two-Buck-Chuck,” which was anything but. That’s the day we decided to become the voice for organic wine.
We took to the restaurants and built wine programs comprised solely of these wines, and even won a couple awards. Next target: the DC event scene. It was riddled with amazing chef-driven food, but caterers kept serving the same cheap swill. The worst part is, nobody cared.
Well, we cared. Drinkwell established a catering division and began writing organic wine programs for government and private events. Clients have included the White House, National Archives, Smithsonian Institution, numerous foreign embassies, and countless law firms. We worked for free… a lot. But at one point, people started to request great wine to be served with great food (full steam ahead). We served, they drank, then asked us the same question, every time: “Where can I buy these wines for myself?” We got sick of shrugging our shoulders.
After six years of becoming experts in the field, building an arsenal of the best organic & biodynamic wines available, we’re more-than-grateful to be opening Drinkwell Wine Shop. This will be a culmination of a lot of work, a lot of research, and of course: a lot of tasting. We’re going to sell these wines to our like-minded friends, and to anyone who enjoys delicious, chemical-free wine that also advocates responsibility not only in farming, but as a way of life.
